Professor Fatusi made this suggestion on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022, while delivering a lecture as guest speaker on "Health Promotion and the Agenda for Sustainable Development", at the 2022 scientific conference of Osun State University’s College of Health Sciences, held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium.
Connecting the dots between health promotion and sustainable development, Professor Fatusi posited that they both share several core principles like equity, intersectoral approaches and sustainability. He also stressed how important health promotion is to transforming Nigeria's health sector. According to him, "Addressing Nigeria's health challenges requires the whole of government and a holistic societal approach to prevent ill health. This means that as a nation, we need to invest in high-impact, low-cost and effective health promoting policies. When we do that, Nigeria can be better and Nigeria can thrive."
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor 'Ayo Clement Adebooye, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARIP), Professor Anthony Kola-Olusanya, lauded the College for being a frontline college in terms of academics, scholarship and research, and for continuously publishing the Research Journal of Health Sciences during the COVID-19 lockdown, when other Colleges were not.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Provost of the College, Professor Christopher Alebiosu, thanked the planning committee, academic staff, non-teaching staff and students of the College for working in unison to ensure that the conference was a resounding success.
