Shola Awojide is a chemist and lectures in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria. My research focuses on the evaluation of plant extracts as a possible medicinal use. More specifically, my research has:
(i) shown evidence that essential oils from some plants can be used in the control of some storage pests;
(ii) revealed the chemical components of some essential oils from Nigeria;
(iii) shown that the vast components present in the essential oils could result in synergistic activity in some cases, but the activity could be antagonistic in others;
(iv) produced dust formulations of the essential insecticides to see how their activity compared to some synthetic insecticides;
(v) led to the production of an essential oil-formulated cream to repel black flies so as to make it available as a safe repellent for the locals; and
(vi) determined the antioxidant activities of some essential oils for medicinal purposes.
